I’m Oliver Marriott — Contractor, Investor & Global Mobility Advocate
I started my career in offshore wind logistics and marine coordination — a demanding job that took me around the world. For 8 years I worked on vessels, traveled across time zones, and accepted the trade-offs that come with high-intensity shifts and long trips.
But after 5 years of contracting, I realised something: even though I was earning well, I was living with the constant risk of downtime between contracts, unpredictable schedules, and limited financial security.
I also saw a universal truth: many contractors — even those earning high day-rates — end up heavily invested in pensions, mortgages, or illiquid assets. That often means long-term commitments and little flexibility.
I didn’t want that.
So I made a conscious choice:

to prioritise liquidity over lock-in,

to build liquid assets (stocks, gold, bonds, cash) instead of locking money into pensions or property,

to embrace mobility, freedom, and optional living by renting and staying flexible,

to design a life that isn’t tied to a single country, a mortgage, or a pension plan.
Today, after years of refining this lifestyle and strategy, I live globally, manage my finances smartly, and maintain freedom of movement — without sacrificing security or long-term growth.
